The Federation of German bio-ethanol industrial reported recently that in comparison with 1st half of 2014,
1. Ethanol (Ethyl Alcohol) production in Germany: more than 5 percent increase to a total of 370,484 metric tons (1st half of 2014, it was 352,033 metric tons of ethanol)
2. Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) consumption
a. in ETBE (Ethyl Tert-Butyl Ether) oxygenate and E85 (85% Ethanol blends): 3.7% decline (from 583,909MTs to 562,459Mts)
b. Sales of E85 (85% Ethanol blend): fell 29.5 percent from 507,051 million metric tons
c. Sales of Super E10 (10% ethanol blend): 11 percent decline which represented a market share of 14.1 percent.
d. Sales of ETBE: fell by 20.2 percent from 72,491 metric tons.
On the ethanol production side in 1st half of 2015, the raw material source were from
i. Sugar Beets: a total of 136,608 metric tons of sugar beets were used to make ethanol, a 21 percent increase over the same period last year.
ii. Feed Grain: declined by 2.3 percent and
iii. Other substances (as food industry residue): fell to 4.15 metric tons.
The decline of 3.7 percent in bio-ethanol consumption during the first half of 2015 suggests the introduction of greenhouse gas abatement rates has not worked as planned. Meantime, the legislation aimed at the fuel sector which reduces emissions by 4 percent should be implemented in 2016, instead of 2017
